Oktoberfest beer and sausage have been enjoyed together for more than a hundred years. And for a really good reason—they’re delicious. Here’s why: The browning of our sautéed sausage complements the rich, toasted malt flavors of Leinenkugel's® Oktoberfest®, while the salty, savory flavors in the dish are offset by subtle, caramel sweetness in the beer.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons canola oil
4 large chicken Italian sausages
1 yellow onion, peeled and sliced thin
1 red bell pepper, seeded and sliced thin
1 green bell pepper, seeded and sliced thin 1 clove garlic, peeled and minced
1 15-ounce can diced tomatoes
½ cup chicken stock
1 tablespoon tomato puree
2 bay leaves
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes or ground black pepper
1 15-ounce can cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
Preparation
Step 1
In a large sauté pan, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat. Brown sausages until lightly golden, about 4 minutes per side, then transfer to a plate.
Step 2
Add remaining oil to pan and reduce heat to medium. Add onions, peppers, and garlic and sauté until softened, about 4 minutes. Next, add remaining ingredients, except for the beans, to the pan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, and stir until combined. Once boiling, reduce heat to a medium simmer, return sausages and add beans to the pan, and simmer for 6 to 8 more minutes until sausages have cooked through and stock has reduced slightly. Serve.
